Quote of the Whenever

September 30th, 2005

Quote of the Whenever:

Dan: Come with us.
Casey: Where?
Dan: El Perro Fumando.
Casey: “The Smoking Dog”?
Dan: Yes.
Casey: Why?
Dan: If you wear something blue, you get $2 off a giant blue margarita.
Casey: You know, I make a pretty good living. I can actually afford to wear what I want and pay full price.
Dan: I’m not promoting the economic upside as much as I am the opportunity to drink something giant and blue.

Serenity

September 29th, 2005

Oh, and while I’m talking about movies, Serenity comes out this weekend too. I’ve seen it. It kicks ass. Go see that too.

Mirrormask

September 29th, 2005

Mirrormask, the Neil Gaiman and Dave McKean movie, is coming out in limited release this weekend. According to Gaiman, the distributors have said that the first weekend’s attendance will determine what happens next, so anyone who’s a fan of Gaiman or McKean should go see it this weekend, if you live somewhere where it’s showing. (Theater list here.) Unfortunately, I’ll be out of town all weekend, but I’ll see it when I get back into the city.

Veronica Mars season 2

Joining the 21st Century

September 27th, 2005

I’ve finally joined the 21st century and set up an RSS feed. The address is http://www.whosefaultyvision.com/blog/blog.xml. I haven’t checked other browsers (aside from IE, which doesn’t support RSS), but if you’re using Firefox, you can click the orange button at the right side of the address bar to subscribe to the feed.

Oh, and to make the subscription work better, I’ve joined the late 20th century and added a “Permalink”. As a side benefit, now my devoted readers can link straight to individual posts of mine. Not that that’s ever been an issue, mind you.

Eat like Dubya

September 26th, 2005

Have you ever wanted to eat like Dubya?

Windsurfing

September 26th, 2005

I was up in Ithaca with Christmas last weekend. Among other things, she induced me to try windsurfing for the first time. It was really a lot of fun. When I was on the board, and moving, it was great–I was able to steer a little with my feet, and control my speed a little with the sail. Unfortunately, I was only able to go in one direction (relative to the wind), so after I got out a bit, I had to swim back, pulling the board, which wasn’t quite so much fun.

Anyway, I injured one of my toes in the process. I didn’t bang it against anything, oddly enough–I wore wetsuit “booties” that were too tight and squished it. At first, I thought it was broken–it was blue-black, and looked really ugly. But it’s only bright red today, so I think it’s probably not too serious.

It’s a pity it’s a toe, really, from a “guy” point of view. If I had injured a finger instead, people would see it and say, “What happened to your finger?” And I’d reply, “Windsurfing accident.” And they’d be all impressed.
